Development and application of aluminum for nuclear energy and nuclear energy -- aluminum alloys for reactors.

(1) the absorption cross section of thermal neutron is small.

(2) radiated induction radiation attenuates rapidly, and high purity aluminum drops sharply within a week after irradiation.

(3) the splash corrosion of the reactor wall is small;

(4) the cavitation rate is below 175 oC, and it is resistant to irradiation. Therefore, it has been widely applied in nuclear energy industry.



The reactor aluminum material for nuclear reactors can be divided into two kinds; the shell and structural materials of low temperature reactors under 100~130 centigrade are used mainly for industrial pure aluminum and aluminum - magnesium - silicon alloy, 3A21 alloy and former Soviet CAB alloy; the use of material for medium temperature reactor at temperature not more than 400 degrees, has aluminum - Nickel iron alloy, aluminum silicon nickel alloy, of which the typical material is the 8001 alloy in the United States.
